Code of Conduct for Participants
  • I deserve a safe, kind, and fun cycling experience.  I will tell my coaches and my parents if it is not safe, kind and fun!

  • I will treat every FYCO participant, parent, coach, staff, and others, with respect regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation or ability.

  • I deserve to participate in an environment that is free of drugs, tobacco and alcohol, and expect adults to refrain from their use at all events and activities.

  • I will attend every activity, practice, event, and race that I can, and I will notify my coach if I cannot attend.

  • I will listen to and learn from my coaches.

  • I will encourage my parents to be involved with cycling because it is important to me.

  • I will not put cycling ahead of my other commitments such as family and school.

  • I will remember that participating in cycling is an opportunity to learn and have fun.

  • I will always ride within my ability and not take dangerous risks.

  • I will keep my bike clean and in safe working condition.

  • I will never ride alone in isolated areas; I will always let someone know where I am riding and when I plan to return.

  • I will always wear appropriate gear: helmet, gloves, and eyewear.

  • I will bring proper hydration and nutrition on every ride.

  • I will bring appropriate tools and parts (tools, spare tube or patch kit, tire levers, and inflation device.)

  • I will not ride in unsafe conditions.

  • I will respect all trail users, be courteous, follow the rules of right away, and allow for and practice safe passing

  • I will always do my best when racing

  • I will respect the land, trails, wildlife and plants, natural and historical features.

  • I will never litter or leave trash on the trail; I will pick up trash whenever possible when riding

  • I will ride only on designated and legal trails and routes

  • I will not build trails without full permission and permits from the land owner/manager.

Code of Conduct for Coaches and Staff
  • I will provide a safe, kind, and fun environment for all FYCO participants.

  • I will treat every FYCO participant, parent, coach, staff, and others, with respect regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation or ability.

  • I will expect FYCO participants to treat every participant, parent, coach, staff, and others, with respect regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation or ability.

  • I will use positive techniques of guidance, including redirection, positive reinforcement and encouragement rather than competition, comparison and criticism.

  • I will respect the skill level of each FYCO participant and emphasize the importance of developing skills appropriate for each participant.

  • I will not engage in unsportsmanlike conduct with any FYCO participant, parent, coach, staff or others.

  • I will not permit FYCO participants to engage in unsportsmanlike conduct with any participant, parent, coach, staff or others.

  • I will not use drugs or alcohol while participating in any FYCO. 

  • I will not permit FYCO participants to use drugs or alcohol at any FYCO event.

  • I will not engage in the use of profanity.

  • I will not permit FYCO participants to engage in the use of profanity.

  • I will not be alone with a single FYCO participant at any time.

  • I will not leave FYCO participants unsupervised.

  • I will not neglect or abuse FYCO participants physically, verbally, sexually, or emotionally.

  • I will respect FYCO participant’s rights not to be touched in ways that make them feel uncomfortable, and their right to say no.

  • I will not release FYCO participants to anyone other than the authorized parent, guardian, or other adult authorized by the parent or guardian.

  • I can expect a safe, kind, and fun cycling experience for my child.  I will communicate with FYCO coaches or staff if my child’s experience is not safe, kind and fun.

  • I will not force my child to participate in cycling activities.

  • I will encourage my child to attend every activity, practice, event, and race, and I will notify my child’s coach if my child cannot attend.

  • I will be involved in my child’s cycling activities because it is important to my child.

  • I will expect my child to treat every participant, parent, coach, staff, or others with respect regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation or ability.

  • I will not permit my child to engage in unsportsmanlike conduct with any participant, parent, coach, staff, or others.

  • I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my child ahead of a personal desire to win.

  • I will support coaches and staff working with my child, in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all.
